Fluid locking

If it happens to stop with an inlet valve open, you can land up with either petrol (from the flaot bowl) or oil (from the crankcase, through the breather into the airbox then in through the carb.)

Fluid is not compressable (compared to air in any case). If you try to turn your engine over with the combustion chamber full of fluid, you'll fuck it.

As such, if your bike has been on its side for any length of time, it is a good plan to take the plug out and turn it over. If nothing happens well and good, if you get a jet of oil, time well spent, you now have straight as opposed to bent conrods.
